Anthropic released its new artificial intelligence model, "Claude 3.5 Sonnet," on June 21, 2024. According to the company, this model features industry-leading intelligence, outperforming competitor models and previous Claude iterations across a broad range of evaluations.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet is available for free on Claude.ai and via the iOS app. It is also available on platforms such as Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud's Vertex AI. Pricing is $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, with a 200,000-token context window.
The company claims the model sets new industry benchmarks in graduate-level reasoning, undergraduate-level knowledge, and coding proficiency. Notably, it demonstrates marked improvements in grasping nuance, humor, and complex instructions, generating natural and relatable prose.
Anthropic also stated that Claude 3.5 Sonnet operates at twice the speed of its predecessor, making it well-suited for complex tasks.
Visual reasoning has also been strengthened, enabling the interpretation of charts and graphs as well as extracting text from imperfect images.
Furthermore, Anthropic introduced "Artifacts," a new feature on Claude.ai. This allows users to view and edit Claude-generated code, documents, and website designs in real time within a dedicated workspace.
The company is also focused on safety and privacy, having completed pre-deployment evaluations with the UK's Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (UK AISI) and incorporating feedback from external experts to enhance model safety.
Anthropic plans to release additional models in the Claude 3.5 family and roll out further feature enhancements. As AI continues to evolve, Claude 3.5 Sonnet's capabilities and future roadmap will be closely watched.
